Taking a cue from a popular YouTube series, Madison Opera shot a series of videos that featured rapid-fire interview questions shot in one take.
Anyone that has spent time backstage knows how quickly new friendships form. This series aimed to mimic that level of intimacy between the audience and the artists.
Filmed in the first-person point of view, the setup follows the General Director of Madison Opera as she checks in with the artists before rehearsal.
The space and time constraints meant that everything needed to be compact, discreet, and easy to set up and take down. I worked with a single light, a small camera on a gimbal, and lavalier mic’s to capture the audio.
The constraints created a happy accident as we needed to pair artists together. The result was a more organic and fun conversation between the guests.
